In a report filed by Ad Week, Real Simple magazine has revealed a partnership with Target to launch a collection of limited edition pet products with the potential for e-commerce involvement.
Real Simple’s publisher, Sally Preston, explained the items are “practical with a twist.” They will include things like LED lighted pet collars and a petware design from LittleGifts, a manufacturing company. From its first launch, there will be 20 SKYs and the line will be in Target stores for three months. Real Simple shared that 64 percent of their subscribers also own pets, so they hope to target this sector with the line.
Real Simple execs shared that they may move into e-commerce, but at the present time they do not sell products on their website. Kristin van Ogtrop, managing editor of Real Simple, told Ad Week, “We’re looking at ways—not just through our site but through apps—to be a little creative there as well.”
They also have a line of products in the Bed, Bath, and Beyond that has grown from 20 SKUs at launch to a present 400 SKUs. Publisher Preston shared that the past three years have seen significant growth in the area of product sales.
Incidentally, Target and Real Simple sold a line of home office and products for organization in 2005, and the newest line of pet products are planned as a limited run. Ad Week reported there could be further opportunities between the two companies.
