Brew Bones are made and baked in southern California by two dog-loving friends. They contain spent whole grains, brown rice flour, rye flour, flaxseed, and all-natural/preservative-free chicken broth. They do not contain any soy, corn, wheat flour, dairy products, alcohol, preservatives, artificial flavors or colors. The packaging the bones are placed in is biodegradable and they are made in the United States.
One of the Brew Bones owners, Heloise Love, told the North County Times that the spent grains come from a Vista brewery called Mother Earth Brew Company, owned by her husband and his brother.
DoggieBeerBones is a company in San Diego that makes all-natural dog treats using upcycled grain that is used in the brewing process. Made by hand with malted barley, oats, peanut butter, flour, egg and water, these treats contain no soy, corn, preservatives, or additives.
The North County Times reported that Dave Crane, system analyst for Qualcomm, sells the product under the named Stone Bones. Launched in 2010, he originally made the biscuits in his home but they have since moved to a commercial kitchen in the Carlsbad, California, area. Crane learned that the grains he used to make pizza dough and bread were also being used for dog treats by other people.
Pricing for the Doggie Beer Bones costs $2.99 for a six pack and $4.99 for a 12 pack. Brew Bones are $5.50 for a package of 16. These products are available online.
