FidoPharm, a company that offers products such as PetArmor flea and tick prevention, has announced they are launching PetTrust Plus, which is the first and only generic heartworm preventative medicine for pets. It will be available nationwide at retail pharmacies and contains ivermectin and pyrantel as its prevention.
Located in Yardley, Pennsylvania, FidoPharm’s goal is to help pets prevent heartworm while giving owners a choice without sacrificing quality and efficacy, according to the company’s President, Alex Kaufman. He shared, “continues to protect pets and provide pet parents with affordable and accessible pet health care options and we are proud to educate pet owners about the importance of heartworm testing and treatment."
Since it is designed to be specifically sold in retail pharmacies, PETTRUST Plus can be purchased using a prescription from a pet’s veterinarian, so owners have a wider selection of access to the medication. FIDOPharm is also in a partnership with the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) to give pets in need the same protection. It was revealed that the state of Louisiana has nearly three times the national average of heartworm cases in the United States.
The pet trust of $5,000 has been provided at the LA/SPCA so that the next 500 eligible dogs who are adopted will be given a six-month supply of PETTRUST PLUS. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ Adoption Center in New York will also be given a donation of PETTRUST Plus so that they can use the product throughout the year.
Ana Zorrilla, CEO of the Louisiana SPCA, stated, “Our homeless animals are ready to provide love, support and companionship, but all too often they are victims of this preventable disease.”
It is noted that dogs should be tested for heartworm infection prior to any preventative program beginning.
