Gayle Kaye has been fascinated with Collies her entire life. For forty years she has been breeding Collies using the “Chelsea” prefix. As a breeder/owner/handler, she is currently working on her 12th generation, descending from two foundation bitches purchased in 1972. In spite of a small breeding program and keeping a limited number of adults, she has created a successful family of Collies and has bred multiple generations of specialty winning champions.
She is also an avid collector of Collie artwork, books and memorabilia – all of which have helped cultivate a passion for Collie history and events.
A soon-to-be Collie Club of America officer and an AKC licensed judge for Collies; she is a member of the Quarter Century Collie Club and the Collie Health Foundation. Her current and past involvements with the Collie Health Foundation have led to numerous projects in Collie Health, which are helping to guard the Collie’s future. Currently she serves on the Collie Health Foundation "Board of Directors" and is a member of that organization’s “Grants Committee”.
As the longtime Chairperson of the Collie Club of America Archives, she has become a noted breed historian. She authored the award winning book “A Century of Collies” (Maxwell winner for best single breed book 2004) and in 2009 won a Maxwell and the President’s Award (for best book in show) with “The Collie in America”. She has edited and published numerous books for the Collie Club of America, including the award winning 1995 Yearbook (Maxwell winner in 1995) and the hugely popular book “Parader”. In addition to being a past Gazette Columnist, she has edited and co-edited the “Collie Club of America Bulletin”, as well as being a noted contributor and writer for numerous all-breed and Collie publications.
She currently lives in a rural area of San Diego with her husband Don and four generations of champion Chelsea Collies!
