DOGTV, touted as the first and only television network designed for dogs, is making its debut in the San Diego, California marketplace. It launches this week on Cox and Time Warner Cable in San Diego.
The idea of Dr. Nicholas Dodman, super trainer Victoria Stillwell, and animal rights expert, Warren Eckstein, DogTV has been developed and tested over four years’ time and is touted as a “new channel for man’s best friend.” DOGTV producers, backed by scientific research and consulting with humane societies and pet experts, wanted to understand how dogs perceive the world. In conjunction with a creative team and hundreds of hours spent, the network caters to a dog’s sense of sight, hearing, and movement detection.
"Loving our dogs so much, we feel guilty when we leave them home alone," said Gilad Neumann, CEO of DOGTV. "DOGTV provides customized television entertainment, while the rest of the family is away at work or too busy to play. Studies show it relaxes and stimulates our dogs -- keeping them healthier and more content."
For those people who wonder if dogs actually watch, see, and respond to what is on television, Dr. Nicholas H. Dodman, program director of the Animal Behavior Department of Clinical Sciences, Tufts University, Massachusetts, shared, “Dogs respond to what they see and hear on TV, and enjoy TV the most when they see other dogs, other animals and even inanimate moving objects.”
Three types of programming will be offered for both relaxing and stimulating content along with positive behavioral reinforcements. For dogs that are left alone, relaxing sounds and music will help keep Fido calm and peaceful. For those who lack stimulation while owners are away, invigorating images, animation, and real world sounds will keep Fido engaged. To prevent mental fatigue, boredom, and depression, DOGTV is designed to reduce stress and add pleasure to a dog’s life.
Pet owners can find DOGTV on channel 2635 in San Diego on Cox and on channel 148 on Time Warner. DOGTV will be free for a limited period of time and then will be available at a later time for approximately $4.99 a month.
