PetChatz, a new patented device that allows pet owners to stay in touch with pets via a smart phone or computer, has been announced. Approved for the 2012 Minnesota Angel Tax Credit and designed with peace of mind for pet owners, PetChatz comes from Anser Innovation, LLC, a Minneapolis-based start-up company.
Using PetChatz, people can watch, talk to, and even “feed” their pets through a Skype-like videophone. The device that stays in the residence/home is plugged into the wall and is equipped with a webcam, speaker phone, and microphone, as well as scent and treat dispensers.
Pet owners can also use a Web-based app on their computer or mobile device so that they can “watch” their pet remotely. They can watch in a spy-like mode or press a call button to signal dogs to the device, where they can watch, talk, and feed them.
PetChatz was born from an idea by medical device inventor, Mark Kroll. Together with Lisa Lavin and Kroll’s son, Brady, the product was born. The trio admits there are other similar products on the market, such as Skype, but there is nothing that dispenses treats or scents.
A training protocol has been set at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine for June of 2012 to address dogs interacting with PetChatz.
PetChatz is slated for spring manufacturing with an expected fall launch.
