Liz Palika’s parents had a German Shepherd Dog when Liz was a baby and toddler and some of Liz’s first memories concern that dog, a silver sable named Butch. “I think I imprinted on that dog as much as I did my parents,” she says. Since Butch, Liz has shared her life with animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, pet rats, birds, and a variety of reptiles and amphibians. As a young adult she was a military police dog handler and a veterinarian technician; today she is an award winning author and a respected dog trainer and behavioral consultant.
Liz has been writing professionally since 1985 when she was first published in Dog Fancy magazine. Since then she has written more than 70 books and 1000 magazine articles and columns. She has been published in Dog World, Cats, Cat Fancy, AKC Gazette, and many other pet publications, as well as Newsweek, The Saturday Evening Post, and Women First. Many of her works have garnered awards from Dog Writers Association of America, Cat Writers, and San Diego Book and Writing Awards, as well as other organizations.
