Pet Supplies Plus To Move Warehouse from Michigan to Indiana
Pet Supplies Plus, chain that began in 1988 by Jack Berry and Harry Shallop, announced it will relocate its warehousing operations from Michigan to Seymour, Indiana. This move will create up to 135 new jobs by the year 2016.
The chain currently has 240 stores in 23 states with plans to now to lease and equip a 763,000 square-foot facility in Seymour. The move will double the company’s capacity to support its existing and planned retail store customer base. Pet Supplies Plus also plans to ship to customers in August from the Seymour location. A total of 10 Pet Supplies Plus stores currently exist throughout the state of Indiana, creating a total of 200 jobs.
Todd Pankey, PSP senior vice president of supply chain, shared, “This investment supports our customers who can expect substantial service improvements, a broader range of products and the highest level of availability in the industry. We appreciate the commitment from Indiana and Seymour who have supported the company with incentives to relocate to the area."
It is reported that the Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Pet Supplies Plus up to $850,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The credits are performance based and until employees are hired, the company cannot claim incentives. Additional property tax abatement was approved by the city of Seymour per the request of Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation.
